Reposting this thread from 2021 as the Suzy Lamplugh super complaint is published. gov.uk/government/pub… We’ve known the problems since at least 2017. Has anything really changed ? How many more reviews / reports do we need before there is fundamental systemic change ?

Headline grabbing reforms need to be understood in context of broken system. Great if call handlers are trained, but what if the frontline officers who arrive aren’t? Great to have DAPOs but what if no action is taken after they are breached? System is entirely dysfunctional.

Protection orders are a case in point, argues Hohl. Often police don’t know how to use them and courts have no time to hear applications. When imposed, they too often fail to be flagged on internal systems; when breached, nothing is done.

ā€œVictims might have actually been placed at more risk because the system is not effective,ā€ she says. ā€œIf the government was to reach for existing solutions, fixing the system of protective orders needs to be a priority.ā€

Great turn out of families, friends and campaigners coming together to remember those who have died as a result of the violence and neglect of the state and to demand accountability & systemic change so that these deaths end. How does this keep happening? The criminal justice and other agencies who fail victims and enable predators need to be held to account.

It’s even worse when you look at the stats for criminal defence solicitors. Only 4% are aged under 35 and in 2021 the average age was 49. A looming crisis lawsociety.org.uk/campaigns/crim…

Interesting - systemic police failures to investigate DA often have huge safeguarding consequences and embolden perpetrators to commit further offences. Would be interesting to know why there were no charges in 3 separate cases.
