Making it impossible to speak out against those in power. Behind the words and excuses, that’s the real aim of #Hungary’s new law. To allow this to happen now is to accept that, tomorrow, anyone in Europe could undermine core democratic principles.

The law that tries to silence all opposing voices in #Hungary goes against our democratic values and breaks the rules we all share. You break the rules, you get sanctioned. With over 60 MEPs from both right and left, I am calling on the Commission to act now.

Is Slovakia the new Hungary? The government seems intent on following in Mr Orbán’s footsteps. In Bratislava, we met with authorities and civil society. As the #DRFMG mission ends, legitimate concerns remain but we believe there’s still room for dialogue and a change of course.

Six million. Six million women and men deported by the USSR. Lives and peoples shattered. They are not the only victims of the atrocities committed by the communist regime. To ensure they are not forgotten, we spoke the names of some of them with their families by our side.
