🧠👂🏼New findings from SoundBrain Lab reveal that middle-aged adults w/ normal hearing show reduced neural distinctiveness for speech representations. Could this indicate early cortical changes linked to hidden hearing loss? biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Using EEG and neural networks, our study shows phoneme encoding is less distinct and recruits broad neural resources in middle-aged adults. The less distinct phoneme encoding persists even when controlling for peripheral hearing and acoustic processing ability.
