We hope everyone has had a fantastic Christmas and end of year break. Sixth Form returns tomorrow, Tue 7th Jan 2025. All students are expected to be in by the usual time, no later than 8:30am. We look forward to seeing you all again for the start of our Spring Term 2025!

We have put together a group of sixth formers who are Team Southmoor Student Leaders. Some of these are volunteering as photographers and journalists to cover our lower school sporting events whilst others will be managing their younger peers!

We were delighted to welcome Peter Hyman, a former policy adviser to both Tony Blair & Sir Keir Starmer, to Southmoor on Wed. He held a workshop on online radicalisation, & gathered views from our sixth form students that will feature in the research paper he is writing.

On Tue, after our visit to the Wates/AESC Gigafactory, we welcomed Sunbelt Rentals & Wates Group for the Sunbelt Rentals Beacons Schools programme with our Yr 12 Engineers. The session focused on employability skills, help to prepare for work & how to apply for Apprenticeships.

Yr 13 Fine Artists & Photographers visited the NationalGlassCentre & NGCA, exploring the contemporary art exhibitions for exam inspiration. They sketched, photographed & saw a hot glass demo, ending with the unveiling of the 'Molly' statue honoring women shipyard workers.

Year 12 Geographers spent three exciting days in the Lake District, based at Derwent Hill. They gathered fieldwork data, tackled orienteering and rocket challenges, climbed Helvellyn, and explored glaciated landscapes—finishing with a sunny gorge walk! 🏞️🧭

Over Easter, our social sciences group travelled to New York the so-called “crossroads of the world” for an educational tour that brought our studies to life. From iconic landmarks to everyday street scenes, the city offered lessons in history, politics, sociology, & culture!

Last week our students got into the fundraising spirit as part of Raising & Giving Week. Yr 12 & 13 contributed their own fundraising by offering a car washing service for staff who wished to donate. Together we managed to raise an impressive £1400 for The Red Sky Foundation!

The NHS Healthy Heads Team visited school last week to host a workshop aimed at supporting students who may be experiencing stress in the lead-up to their exams. Drop-in sessions will continue to run every Wed lunchtime for KS4 students in Years 11 & 13, up until 21st May 2025.
