Excited to be hosting a workshop in Nairobi today on Space Intelligence 🚀🛰️🌎🗺️'s work to create country-level forest and forest change maps of Kenya. This is for Verra - Standards for a Sustainable Future new Consolidated REDD Methodology, with the baselines we produce ultimately applied to all REDD projects in Kenya.

In 2018 I wrote a review paper in Nature on the impact of climate change on tropical forests (nature.com/articles/s4158…, subscription-free rdcu.be/3vsw) I said that tropical forests were once a carbon sink, reducing climate change, but would soon be a carbon source 1/5

A new study by Everland has revealed just how effective REDD+ is. The study reviewed data from 53 REDD+ projects across 7 countries; this is 80% of active REDD+ projects by area for the period studied, 2002-2022. Read the key findings here: buff.ly/45MIGUA.
