I have a few adjustments to this, but it’s a great point that you need to ask a lot of questions and understand all the aspects of an opponent’s punt team. The complexities of punt return have made it my favorite phase of special teams.

No matter the level, this is why it’s good to remind the unit preseason, in season, and in game, that kickoffs are LIVE BALLS and are different than punts. Chaos happens, and players need quick, simple reminders. (Remind them on punts about POISON as well)

A reliable holder improves mechanics, and perhaps more importantly, the kicker’s confidence. They can be alchemists who turn a poor snap into gold, and the kicker knows the ball will be there. Work with a holder and not just off of sticks!!

Super fired up and proud of you!! Your enthusiasm and athleticism have been a huge asset on special teams (and obviously elsewhere) since you came to Choate, and it’s been a pleasure to see your development. You’re going to be great cadet and officer. Crank it!!
