A good read for those who are watching California burn. The science is clear, maybe we should... you know... listen. (bonus points for featuring some folks I used to work with.) propublica.org/article/they-k…

The west coast has currently has the worst air quality in the world because of 1) settler colonial land management practices replacing Indigenous ones 2) climate change, and 3) a gender reveal party. Colonialism, capitalism, and the patriarchy will kill us all.

Explain to me how letting 200,000 people die for the sake of "the economy" is any better than doing human sacrifice for the sake of "the harvest?"

I don't know who needs to hear this, but plants are hella queer. Stop talking about "boy plants" and "girl plants" or "boy parts" and "girl parts." Plant sexuality is way more complex and interesting than our heteronormative interpretation of it.

I was once in a geophysics/energy class taught by a seismologist and his friend (an astronomer) walked by, poked his head in, and loudly proclaimed that "geology is just a sub-discipline of astronomy." I think about that sometimes. ...but ecology is the coolest science.

I know there's a lot going on in the world, but I finally just bred some blue roses on my #AnimalCrossing island and that feels like something worth celebrating. Also, shout out to Nintendo for actually using (simplified) genetics for flower breeding.

Stay tuned for my top 10 facts about #BadAssBogs! Bogs are weird, logistically challenging & sometimes smelly. But they have fascinating plants, are an archeology & paleoecology resource, & are one of the most efficient stockpiles of carbon in the biosphere. What's not to ♥️?

Sitting here daydreaming about the day I can start a moss or lichen talk/paper without the "why you should give a damn about mosses and lichens" section. The more I learn, the cooler (and more important) I find them.

I don't know who needs to hear this but the Subtle Knife was published in 1997, Prisoner of Azkaban was published in 1999. If anything, Dementors are a rip-off of Spectres, not the other way around. Also, Patronuses are less cool Daemons. -Will from the late 90's

Raise your hand if you've ever done a golf fist pump after grinding on a model in R for a while and finally getting it to work properly.
