This feels like such an exciting week for literacy! UKLA conference, a new and wonderful children's laureate in Frank Cottrell-Boyce on the shoulders of the giant that is @JosephACoelho, a new book from Dominic Wyse and Charlotte Hacking and, dare I say it, a general election!

My mum and dad run a folk club and tonight, we're watching Mark Radcliffe. Not bad for a Wednesday.

This sums up how my thinking began today. Standard English. Ways we need to think and things we need to know. Change the student, or change the system?

The teens in my house are singing Alice the Camel. One mis-heard and thought it was a song about Alisdair Campbell. Now, it is all I can hear.

A fantastic day of thinking and talking and listening. Thinking differently about the English curriculum. Also...a good day out!
