Rowena gave a fantastic demonstration of her plant dyes on Tuesday, talking about the history of using plants in dyes and the spectrum of possibility in a dye pot. These amazing spindle berries produced a chartreuse-type colour in linen

Gorse, oak leaf + iron, oak leaf, callistemon, hawthorn, phellodendron and spindle tree. These are the results from the jam-jar dye pots, an easy and quick way to test colours. Linen mordanted with oak gall and aluminium acetate. Wool or silk would get richer colours St Andrews Botanic Garden
