Great first day of my MSc fieldwork with Phoebe O'Brien! Great to be gathering the first of my relevés. The recent drought appears to have created a lull in the Burren vegetation but still nice to survey the grassland before the thunder showers! #fieldwork Thanks again Phoebe!

Surveyed a Molinia meadow and grassland with Phoebe O'Brien! Loss in species diversity since previous surveys (approx 7-10 years ago) due to an apparent lack of management. Shows that some habitats, like grasslands need management. Nice species still found in the grassland though!

Some finds from a grassland survey of a dry-humid acid grassland in Ballyvourney, Cork. Round leaved Sundew (Drosera rotundiflora) coming into flower, Eyebright (Euphrasia spp), and learned how to identify Western Gorse (Ulex gallii) with Phoebe O'Brien. Great day!

A really nice upland grassland today with Phoebe O'Brien! Full of cultural heritage (as described on Phoebes Instagram). Some lazy bed systems, and other monument structures. Lawns of chamomile also. Lovely site for my MSc for biodiversity and cultural heritage. Magical world!

An eager and engaged audience for today's StableGrass Project drone surveys in Roscommon.

Great to see the StableGrass fieldwork in full flow with Olly Lynch Milner and Phoebe O'Brien assessing the current plant diversity of the sites, Dr. Samuel Hayes collecting the remote sensing data and, and Eoin starting to process plant samples for functional traits! #Grasslands #diversity

From the StableGrass Project semi-natural #grasslands surveys out on Carrignabinnia, on the #Galty Mountains. Overview 1st, 2nd pic is the #orthomosaic, the Digital Elevation Model (#DEM) 3rd, and 4th showing the level of detail at the releves, with individual blades of grass visible!

If you are interested in grasslands follow Eoin's page which is full of identification tips. He's building a website too! One to watch Irish Semi-natural Grasslands

This species is known as the dung deamon (Deconica coprophila) and, true to it's name, it is found growing gregariously on dung and leaf litter on grasslands and pastures. Phoebe O'Brien Irish Semi-natural Grasslands StableGrass Project

Found some good indicators for quality grassland in a local sheep field. Yellow club (Clavulinopsis helvola) and butter waxcap ( Hygrocybe ceracea). #GreatIrishGrasslands #waxcapwatch Phoebe O'Brien StableGrass Project

Lovely time at the #IPSAM2024 conference! Lovely talks, and I was delighted to have the opportunity to present my research on semi-natural grasslands! And also loads of very interesting talks, including the National Seed Bank, Nd the Irish Tree Explorers Network! StableGrass Project

StableGrass Project fieldwork today on the western end of the Galtee Mountains in Co. Limerick, surveying semi-natural grassland biodiversity via UAV . A steep climb, but the weather held out for the duration so it was clear with some stunning views!
