Dr Jay Watts That statement also relates to a 3 year timeframe. Many people won't be reassessed in that period, and therefore the new rules won't apply until later: questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-questi… It's a misleading statistic.

This is new Joseph Rowntree Foundation analysis showing that there aren't enough jobs for all the millions of people losing out from the cuts, so many will just see their living standards plummet.

NEW: Ten anti-poverty and disability organisations have come together to publish this joint briefing on the UC & PIP Bill. It sets out who would be affected by these cuts and what they mean for poverty, food bank need and public services. πŸ‘‡ ucpipbill.co.uk

Thanks BBC News (UK) for having me on (just after 12.20 at bbc.co.uk/iplayer/live/b….) I said I'm proud of everyone's work in getting mitigations for existing recipients, but it's not right that support is being cut from future members of a group we know to be at high risk of hardship.

A reminder: 1. This is only meaningful for the review if DWP is clear on what co-production means (given prior govts' over-promising) 2. This is largely meaningless for the Bill if it has no bearing on PIP cuts (as it stands) We need both for this to be a real step forward

‼️Extra cost of being disabled in UK to rise by almost 12% in five years ‼️ The new Scope Disability Price Tag published today Cuts to PIP will leave disabled people with no financial support to live independently theguardian.com/politics/2025/…

Important to note that this *isn't* an assessment of the poverty that the measures in this bill will create. It includes the impact of not going ahead with the previous Conservative government's reforms to the WCA.

Peter Matejic (@statspeter) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This is a key point. The speed at which it's being reached is slower but the destination is the same. Do not be taken in by 2029/30 looking better in today's impact assessment. The long run impact post concessions is basically identical.

Katie Schmuecker (@katieschmuecker) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Crucial point‡️the real poverty impact of the disability cuts post concessions is more like 250,000 additional people in 2029/30 And remember, this is just the people that fall ill or become disabled between 2026 and the end of the parliament - it will keep rising over time.

What's playing out in the Commons is utter madness. We don't even know what the new scoring criteria will be when the new scoring system comes in. There's not a single MP, including the secretary of state, including the prime minister, who knows what they're actually voting on

Peter Matejic (@statspeter) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This is terrible news and an awful decision. I have been so impressed by abrdn Financial Fairness Trust and everyone working there, with some really brilliant work produced. And beyond this, the way this seems to have been handled is just plain wrong.

Today MPs will vote on the amended welfare bill. MPs who choose to walk through the lobby and support this bill are paving the way for at least 150,000 people to be pulled into poverty. Here are just 3 reasons why they should oppose this bill from Katie Schmuecker πŸ”½

Iain Porter (@iainkporter) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Actually around 50,000 people will be pulled into poverty by remaining cuts in Bill – this now our best estimate based on Govt’s impact assessments. Joseph Rowntree Foundation previously showed how DWP sleight of hand underplayed true poverty impact – same applies to this latest publication. 🧡1/3
