#OTD, 29 June 1931 Motherwell signed John Blair. He formed a formidable fullback partnership with Ben Ellis (1930-1946) and was a member of the 1931-32 League Championship winning squad. Possible future Hall of Fame inductee. He moved to Morton in Aug 1944.

#OTD, 30 June 1934 Motherwell played game 15 and the penultimate one of their tour of South Africa. In Cape Town they thrashed Western Province 7-0 with goals by MacFadyen (3), his 6th game where he scored 3 or more, Ogilvie (2), Wales, Crawley. Won all 15 games, 1 to go.

On this day 1 July 1916 George Elmore, St Mirren forward 1912-14, died on the first day of the Battle of the Somme aged 36 and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial George scored 20 goals for Saints in 70 games and is pictured scoring against Motherwell at Love St in 1913

#OTD, 5 July 1987 one of the most influential managers in the club’s history died, Mr Robert Ancell (July 1955 - March 1965). He won his first six games at Motherwell, all in the League Cup, scoring 24 goals and conceding just 3. The programme is for his first league game.

26 years ago 😱this month on 5 July 1999 future Hall of Fame inductee Martyn Corrigan was signed from Falkirk. A transfer tribunal set the fee at £30,000. Think Motherwell got the better end of that deal.
