doesn't require an intermediary to hold for you, but *does* require an intermediary network to process transactions for you - not at all like cash "just as valuable as the cash in your pocket" - no, it's got limited credit risk but has operational risk, is not legal tender etc

Imagine caring more about the BUDGETARY impacts (i.e. CBO score) of your fiscal package than the INFLATIONARY impacts. Both sides keep getting this wrong. dissentmagazine.org/online_article…

just can't be stressed enough we're going to see a massive cut to the ACA and Medicaid in 2026 and beyond. some of that is the refusal to extend enhanced subsidies, but now we're seeing Republicans layer additional benefit cuts to marketplace coverage on top of that.

the states most impacted, notably, will be the largest Republican states that refused to expand Medicaid. Texas, Georgia, and Florida marketplace enrollees are about to be slammed with coverage loss and substantial premium increases

“On Tuesday, when Trump came to the Capitol to lobby Republicans on the tax and spending package, multiple lawmakers said the president did not talk about deficits at all. Instead, he underscored the importance that they raise the debt ceiling so the US can borrow more money.”

“[I]f you listen closely, what’s spooking markets these days isn’t deficits. It’s dumb policy..The traders who can move markets? They’re leveraged, twitchy, and short-term. And they don’t care about fiscal probity..they’re not punishing fiscal excess. They’re punishing risk.”

Did you know that because of something called S-PAYGO, the republican budget bill could trigger nearly $500 billion in automatic cuts to Medicare. Not Medicaid. Medicare. cbo.gov/system/files/2…

Guess which president signed S-PAYGO into law as part of a deal to raise the debt ceiling limit in 2010? congress.gov/crs-product/R4…

“Republican pollster Whit Ayres sounded worried…‘Let’s see…Higher prices as a result of tariffs, and millions of Trump voters losing their Medicaid-funded health care. I think even the Democrats might be able to do something with that’.” washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/…

Once again, it is time to repost this to fight the public debt hysteria. Fight the Trump policies on proper grounds folks, public debt is not it. Increase in inequalities, cronyism, climate denialism, etc. Confront head on the vision and values promoted.

"Republicans understand what Democrats still don’t..the question about deficits isn’t so much 'how big?' but 'who benefits?' That’s the language Democrats need. Not budget sermons..Voters don’t want better calculations, they want better convictions." ~Editorial Board

On a related note, I get the sense most Dems don’t understand the bad cop routine being played by a handful of senate republicans and how D’s are playing right into their hands by jumping on the deficit/Moody’s bandwagon. 🍭
