I have been reading this slowly, alongside other books, for ten minutes a night. So I’ve really savoured it. God it’s good: terse, tough, shocking then sentimental, brutal in parts. An old-fashioned massive book - Henry James called them “Baggy Monsters” - to fill your life with.

I really admire Lewis Capaldi, and watching him smash his Glastonbury set is a tonic for the soul.

I’m a child of the 90s, who thought Jarvis Cocker was magnificent proof you could be clever and geeky and a huge success. So I am biased. But obviously Pulp should be the headliners at Glastonbury.

On this day FIVE years ago, we began Times Radio. A few people told me it would never work and could never last. But it does and it has. I want to thank all the magnificent people who’ve worked on the station, and the army of clever, demanding listeners too. Here’s to five more.

This book is out in September and I took it from work for something to read on the train home, and then gulped it down over the weekend. The improbable tale of the morally, sexually, politically ambiguous Christopher Marlowe. Beautifully written; a lovely surprise find for me.
