"Three years later I am even more disappointed, because the society is on auto-pilot while funds and ideas are drying up. Instead of more grassroots energy, we got [...] a sustainability-themed meeting in Hawaii of all places (2025)."

Nikola Stikov Thanks for sharing Nikola. You know I agree on most of your points. If you are looking for a home for grassroots initiatives, I can testify first-hand that ESMRMB is very welcoming!

There may not be a Highlights party this year, but the Highlights magazine marches on Congratulations and thank you to Maria Eugenia Caligiuri, Mathieu Boudreau and the entire MRM Highlights team for keeping the flame alive for ten whole years!

While there was no Highlights party to fund this year, we still gave money to the MRS x MRathon hackathon because it continues to embody the grassroots spirit of the MRI community. #MRathon

Not a shock to anyone that being a conformist is the easiest way to succeed in science. And it will always be true for as long as our primary measure of success is accumulation of citations - and not actual scientific progress.

This is the publishing equivalent of "Don't trust, verify!" We still need a way of validating and reproducing research, but journals have a bad track record of doing that.
