At 6.30am on Monday 3rd July 1944 a flying bomb destroyed the side wall of the theatre. Sleeping inside the theatre was an air-raid warden and his family on fire-watch duty. The bomb blew a hole 60ft in diameter but the only fatality was the warden’s mother-in-law.

On this day 13th July 1953: The murder mystery Four Winds, set entirely in a cottage on the Yorkshire Moors, ran for a week at Streatham Hill Theatre prior to a run in the West End.

'A Romance Of The Navy In Three Acts'. This comedy about a ship's Captain discovering two young female stowaways opened in Streatham on 14th July 1930. It was adapted into a film three times - in 1930, 1940 and 1958!

The musical Love From Judy, set in New Orleans, opened at Streatham Hill Theatre on 18th July 1955. It was later filmed under the title Daddy Long Legs.

The always outrageous - and always popular - Max Miller returned to Streatham Hill Theatre on 19th July 1943.
