A big revamp is genuinely needed. I’ve written about this before. That’s not ideological, it’s practical and about on the ground experience.

I still find the line behaviour is all about relationships a lazy one when the how isn’t detailed. How is this achieved? Shouldn’t school culture & systems allow for this to flourish? What of new teachers to a school, more so ECTs - should they be judged straight away over this?

I find it interesting that schools would rarely dream of putting an ECT on stage to deliver a full day of INSET yet some establishments spend a lot of money on someone to speak who did the job for 5 seconds at best & at worst never did the job but act like they did.

It’s worth keeping in mind that schools can move heaven & earth to try to get some pupils to attend school to no avail because either the pupils &/or the parents don’t see the value in education. No amount of strategy or curricular change will change this for some.

I’m seeing the re-emergence of posters & graphics from 20 ish years ago detailing strategies for pupils trying to regulate themselves. We need to be careful of strategies that may not work, of undermining behaviour approaches/teachers & of overcomplicating things for all.

Speaking to multiple children from multiple year groups today & the number 1 thing they appreciate and value the most is how firm & consistent our school boundaries are, which allows for a calm and purposeful learning environment. Not rocket science.

This is truly awful & a reminder that extremely violent behaviour can happen in schools. Pupil threw teacher to ground 'like a rag doll' bbc.com/news/articles/…

#TrustLeaders I still hold that if education is to truly move forwards for the better then the role & purpose of education & schools needs clearly defining & funding accordingly, school leaders need to be truly consulted & listened to - this extends beyond the usual few.

The question what do children need from education is an interesting one. I’d argue for the adults to act as adults, giving clear boundaries & to support children to develop resilience & attend school. Sometimes the best thing we can do is the hardest thing we can do.
