Look what I caught on the all-sky camera up at Mount Stromlo ! Normally we see meteors, and at first I thought this was something alien, but now it looks like a visitor from the north! Merry Christmas everyone!

20 years ago, a bushfire struck Mount Stromlo It burnt many of the telescope, houses, and had a profound impact on us. We came back stronger than ever,. Here some reflections from Prof Penny Sackett, the director at the time, and Prof Brian Schmidt. youtube.com/watch?v=Kyu1Ol…

Led by A/Prof Francis Bennet, we are constructing a laser optical communication station, a new telescope that will use lasers to send data to satellites and to the Moon. Under the Australian Space Agency's Moon to Mars Initiative, the team received $4.5 million to upgrade it.

It will make the ANU optical ground station work with NASA’s Optical to Orion mission, allowing for the sending of data to the Moon, the Orion capsule, and supporting NASA's Artemis missions. This will allow us to send data very fast to low-Earth orbit, the Moon, and beyond!
