Ry Cooder plays a quite sublime version of Vigilante Man live in 2018. The guitar is a Premier Bantam from the late 50s/early 60s which Ry says he bought on eBay for $300 youtu.be/-2o5sJXLc3M via YouTube

56 years ago this week I found myself in Hyde Park to witness the only UK concert by Blind Faith. I wrote an (admittedly overlong) piece about it here: andnowitsallthis.blogspot.com/2022/05/great-…

Happy Father's Day. This is me and my dad in Blackpool circa 1953. As you can see I favoured the pre-rock & roll baggy jeans with generous turn-up back then. The Headlands hotel behind us is still there I believe.

I've seen a few interviews with Van Dyke Parks since Brian Wilson left us. Here's a great photo of VDP with Ry Cooder 55 years ago in 1970

I was recently reminded that I saw Family twice in January 1969 in Sheffield. At the University Students Union then again at the City Hall. I love how "Concert" is in quotation marks, like a word that is unfamiliar or being used ironically or as a nickname. 12/6 = 62½p

The Yardbirds at the King Mojo Club in Sheffield December 1964. One of the records on the wall is the Rolling Stones EP "Five By Five" released August 1964. Eric Clapton left the band in March 1965

You might not want to listen to it, but this LP of orchestral versions of #BobDylan songs has a great sleeve. I wrote about it and similar gems here: andnowitsallthis.blogspot.com/2025/06/a-gall…

BBC presenter reads “pregnant people” from the teleprompter and then corrects it to “women”. Takes a brave, brave lady to do this at the BBC. 😅

When did people start saying "wheelhouse" to mean one's area of interest or expertise. Seems to be a new-ish thing, but absolutely bloody annoying.

Matt Monro pictured in 1966 with his 6.2 litre Rolls-Royce. Today 8929 MM is on a 1 litre Honda City or Civic. Matt recorded the first cover version of "Yesterday" in Oct. 1965 just weeks after the Beatles released it on Help!

Describing the bizarre line-up of acts on the 1964 Ed Sullivan show: "It's like a donkey race and the #Beatles showed up in a Maserati." Just one of many great lines from Stuart Maconie's new book "With A Little Help From Their Friends.
