Thank you Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation for supporting this study from the start when it was just an idea!
Congrats to first author Suprit Gupta and Perera lab teammates UC San Francisco, and collaborators Hijai Regina Shin Roberto Zoncu UC Berkeley MCB and David Dawson UCLA ! Together we discovered that pancreatic cancer lysosomes are highly resistant to membrane stress. 2/
Happy birthday Anthony Venida and Suprit Gupta - innovating new techniques to “blow” out a candle without taking ones mask off ! 🎂👏
Ferlins to the rescue! Plasma membrane repair protein Myoferlin relocates to lysosomes in pancreatic cancer cells to protect lysosomes against microtears in their membrane. Preprint by Suprit Gupta and Rushika M. Perera lab. Prelight by Berrak Ugur

Our latest paper out today in Nature Cell Biology and previously on bioRxiv 👇 Congrats to lead author Suprit Gupta and team. Excited to continue exploring the many roles of #lysosomes in #pancreaticcancer nature.com/articles/s4155… 1/
Excited to announce our work in the lab of Rushika M. Perera by first author Suprit Gupta is out in Nature Cell Biology ! We demonstrate a unique dependency of Pancreatic Cancer on repair factors previously only found in muscle!
NEW online today from Rushika M. Perera & co: Membrane repair factor Myoferlin protects against membrane damage in pancreatic cancer lysosomes to sustain enhanced lysosomal function and promote tumour growth. Download the pdf here: rdcu.be/cgpkP nature.com/articles/s4155…
Nothing makes a guru happier than the success of his chela!! Suprit Gupta Proud of you Suprit for the great work publihsed in Nature Cell Biology!! Congratulations!! x.com/rushika_perera…
Check out our lab's most recent publication exploring lysosomal biology in PDAC and how it can sustain membrane stress to promote tumor growth! Congrats to Rushika M. Perera, Suprit Gupta, Julian Yano and the rest of the lysosome dream team on this Nature Cell Biology paper!
Thanks UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Ctr for highlighting our research !
Excited to see our work published today! Thanks to all authors and collaborators Rushika M. Perera Dan Nomura dr.noelleletoile
Incredibly grateful to receive the Gunter Blobel Early Career Award. Thank you American Society for Cell Biology for this recognition. Congratulations to all awardees incl. my former mentor Pietro De Camilli De Camilli Lab who received the EB Wilson Medal ! 🍾🍾🙏 ascb.org/society-news/a…
Hard to say goodbye to these two 1st gen Perera lab members 🥺- Anthony Venida - off to Stanford for his postdoc and Suprit Gupta - shown giving his last lab meeting, now at @chemocentryxinc - so proud of all you have achieved. We will miss you 👋
