With Adam Smith and Jonathan Ullman, we have compiled a set of profiles of 29 people in the "foundations of responsible computing" community ("mathematical research in computation and society writ large") who are on the faculty job market. Check it out in the next tweet! 1/4 👇

the inverted final project in my class this semester is a test of how small we can make the gap between "what to do" vs "how to do" with access to llm tools in a topic students know little about.

Our work has been selected as an Oral at ICLR 25! We find theoretical and empirical explanations for the benefits of progressive distillation. Amazing work led by Abhishek Panigrahi and Bingbin Liu, done in collaboration with Andrej Risteski and Surbhi Goel :)

Super excited about this new paper on (multi-modal/human-AI) collaboration with a fabulous team! TLDR: We show that by communicating only predictions/actions across multiple rounds of interaction, the team can do as well as if each party shared all the information they had.

I won't be at ICLR this year, but I'm sharing my papers here, including an oral in the main conference and several orals in the workshops. Topics include: distillation, data selection for pre-training, benchmark + provable alg for unlearning, pref learning, and overtraining.

Super excited to announce our ICML workshop on highlighting the power (and limitations?) of small-scale in the era of large-scale ML. You can submit just a Jupyter notebook, Jupyter notebook + paper, or a survey/position paper. Do submit your work and help us spread the word!

Excited to announce MOSS, our ICML workshop focused on discoveries at small scale! We believe there's tremendous potential & creativity in research done with limited resources and would love to hear your ideas. The submission (due May 22nd) can literally be a Jupyter notebook! :)
