ā€œHealth lies in action, and so it graces youth. To be busy is the secret of grace, and half the secret of content. Let us ask the gods not for possessions, but for things to do; happiness is in making things rather than in consuming them.ā€ — Will Durant

Gall's Law is one of those statements that just keeps hitting harder and more deeply the more time I spend with it. At first it seemed false, then a truism, then an interesting insight, and now a foundational belief about the world.

Today, Boom Supersonic turns ten. I'd like to share here what I shared with our team. A decade ago, I was sitting by myself in my basement in California. I knew no one in the industry and had under my belt a few spreadsheets, a stack of textbooks, and one Dan Raymer crash-course on

I'm so impressed with Imperial College London Ranked Number 2 in the world, overtaking Oxford and Cambridge. Their top graduates are coming out with useful degrees like Computer Science, Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering. And it's really notable how practical and commercial

A friend asked me to explain DNA, RNA, and epigenetics. he said that others had tried before, but it didn’t click for him. I happen to play the piano, so I gave him a simple, albeit imperfect, analogy. After this analogy, he finally understood! Here’s the piano analogy. 🧵

All the coolest tech started out weird, fringe, and geeky. Even the internet, even neural nets were once uncool... until people started successfully leveraging them to accomplish mind-bending things. I want to see the same thing happen with edtech in my lifetime. Learning

New randomized, controlled trial of students using GPT-4 as a tutor in Nigeria. 6 weeks of after-school AI tutoring = 2 years of typical learning gains, outperforming 80% of other educational interventions. And it helped all students, especially girls who were initially behind

What the salad tried to do to us. The first ambition of any plant is to make itself uneatable. Long before anything clever walked on earth, plants settled on poisoning anything with a mouth. If you can’t run, you better taste terrible. The only way to stay alive was to face

Yup. Assignments should be like ā€œuse AI to do ___ complex projectā€ and then have an oral component where the student explains each step of the process they used and their thought process behind it. Schools should prepare kids to accomplish things with the tools of their world.

This is amazing! I wish schools would start using Deep Research to help students deconstruct and iteratively master new skills
