People talk about finances in a relationship as if both people are going to always be an able bodied gainfully employed person. People get laid off, hurt, the economy happens. You might not play the same role as the start, and you may need to bounce back from the unimaginable.

We really fucked up as a profession when we tied advancement to publication but not service (reviewing/editing). More people are trying to publish, but fewer qualified people have time to review. We need to align the incentives better.
