Rosebay Willowherb in a clearing in an ancient High Weald wood near a medieval furnace. This is an alien that has spread almost explosively since WWI but probably earlier but I have no idea how long it has been here. Achillea ptarmica (Sneezewort). My first in flower this year here in the High Weald. A weekly walk takes me through what might be described as “Damp unimproved grassland” (Flora of Sussex) where it is indeed “locally fairly frequent”. A great day at Iping Common with Sussex Botanical Recording Society today - a number of good plants seen including Oblong-leaved and Round-headed sundew and Lesser marshwort

And lots of rare vascular plants too, such as Silene conica (Sand Catchfly) and Geranium purpureum (Little-Robin) 3/5

Plus loads of nice plants of dune systems, such as Eryngium maritimum (Sea Holly) and Calystegia soldanella (Sea Bindweed) 4/5
