We then attended a debate on the use of pharmacogenomics in GP, factors impacting effectiveness included research into drug+genetic interactions, education on data interpretation and clinical application, genetic data storage and maintenance of a updated interaction database

Our next workshop was surrounding LGBTQ+ health, where we discussed the importance of improving healthcare provisions for this population group who in many areas have poorer health outcomes, and then through some case based learning, what we can do in our practice to improve care

Our final workshop from yesterday’s RCGP Annual Primary Care Conference was delivered by our very own head of GEM @HawthorneKamila on undergrad med ed: GP placements shouldn’t just be another setting for students to learn medicine, they should showcase GP to be a stimulating and challenging setting to work

Phenomenal voices on the panel for the NHS question time: started with a heated discussion as to yesterday’s government announcement pushing for more F2F GP consults with £250m “boost” - but as Becks Fisher rightly pointed out, you can’t buy what isn’t available RCGP Annual Primary Care Conference GP team 420

The NHS question time then discussed if everyone should be able to have a F2F consult if they request one - we need a balance, our NHS system is based on proving care based on patient need, and also balancing and fairly sharing the resources available

It was lovely to hear from the RCGP Annual Primary Care Conference panel re the reasons they love GP… @MartinRCGP “people fascinate me more than diseases do” and Aarti Bansal “yes, I want to listen to my patients talk about their cat” - GP is all about listening to and advocating for our patients GP team 420

We touched upon greener practice also in the RCGP Annual Primary Care Conference NHS question time - sustainable clinical healthcare is the same as patient centred healthcare. We need to ask at every level “what is your green plan?”. @MartinRCGP highlighted “improving the planet underpins everything we do”

Completely agree, especially surrounding the narrative around “part-time” GPs, @MartinRCGP pointed out “pilots fly for 32 hours a week as they are in a safety critical role - we need the same understanding”

We’re back from our trip to Liverpool for the RCGP Annual Primary Care Conference, we’re certainly feeling inspired, empowered and excited from meeting and hearing from so many phenomenal GPs!
