“Hodgkin’s disease” led to the earliest classification of lymphomas, which still stands today! If a lymphoma is not a Hodgkin’s then it’s a non-Hodgkin’s. Much has been written about the history of Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Here is a short visual walkthrough. #lymsm

When we disagree with someone at a higher level than we are, we so often overplay the risks of speaking up that we forget to consider the risks of not speaking up. s.hbr.org/2DTZ0er

Trying something new today - a thread on high-risk #multiplemyeloma. I’ll focus this thread on clinical factors and will try to dive into cytogenetics/molecular biology at a later time. This is my first "tweetorial", so any input/advice/commentary is welcome! #mmsm 1/15

Bishal Gyawali, MD, PhD, FASCO Yes, we've known this type of analysis is confounded for 40+ years (see 1983 Anderson Journal of Clinical Oncology). The one time I found it semi-helpful was comparison of CR vs mCR vs PR/HI in #MDS, since we didn't know how mCR (ie blasts go away but no count recovery) compared to other responses.

I feel blessed to have spent >11 years with terrific colleagues Dana-Farber and will always have a special place in my heart for this institution and its mission. I have started telling patients, and thus far all of them have cried; that is the hardest part, by far.❤️/25End

#HematologyTweetstory 33: hemoglobin variants, often said to be the most common single-gene genetic disorders in humans. “Disorders” is not entirely accurate, as many variants are clinically silent. We’ll focus on hemoglobinopathies; thalassemias are a story for another time./1

I’ve dedicated my professional life to myeloma. In these 20 years, about 260,000 Americans have died of myeloma. COVID has taken the lives of 300,000 Americans in one year. This is simply too much. If I’m spending part of my time promoting masks and vaccines, you know why.
