There are not enough students being encouraged to do Chemistry 'for itself' at colleges - they suffer through it as a necessary requirement to do other things - resulting In less interest in the subject at HE and it is harming UK industries across the board

Visits from year 12 students to Bradford Chemistry via University of Bradford Outreach - fun day producing home made Bath Bombs in the lab. Record is 7 minutes of fizzing, but with one class still to go we'll see if it can be beat

Our apprentice students are on campus studying electrochemical reactions, comparing the conductivity of different metal salts. This is one of our favourite experiments on both our residential Chemistry degree and also our Level 6 Lab Scientist programme

The water you drink. The road you drive on. The screen you're looking at. None of these would exist without the $6 trillion chemicals industry. Yet it remains one of the most overlooked sectors in tech:

Excellent news to end a rather harrowing week - my 48th scientific manuscript has just been accepted in Journal of Surfactants and Detergents! Quite a side step compared to what I normally do - heavy on Tim of Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy to study biological samples!
