Amazing collaboration and great results by Orly Tarun - excited about converting SH images into surface potential, binding constant, free energy and curvature maps. Full story: nature.com/articles/s4200…. More to come...

Super proud to get ERC PoC. Not possible without Orly Tarun. Well done, mate! 🤠🍻

Had a great online workshop TSRC. Thanks to my co-organizers Paul Cremer of Penn State Chemistry, Julianna Gibbs Juli Gibbs of U_Alberta_Eng, Nancy Levinger Levinger Lab at CSU and Grace Gonella of Max-Planck-Institut für Polymerforschung. I still miss the live breakfast, atmosphere & discussions though….

Just celebrated the incorcoration of Orylphotonics (orylphotonics.com) with founders Orly Orly Tarun and Nathan. Great things expected. Congrats and onto a bright future!!

Finally: EPFL Institute of Bioengineering Is Now For Real ... Twitter will never be the same again.

Hyaluronan has a far reaching impact on water structure, thanks to its charged nature. Yet another example of the intricate connection between water and biological compounds. Fantastic work by Jan Dedic and Halil OKUR - see: ”advances.sciencemag.org/content/7/10/e…

Congratulations to Orly Tarun & family for the arrival of baby girl twins. IBI Lebowska award winner Dude Marie Bischoff (who else?) organized some hopefully useful presents from the lab – including on brand Oryl Phoronics clothing…. (one can never start too early)🤓

Seonwoo Lee made this wonderful cake in his rice cooker to celebrate his birthday [Congrats 1!!] & his and David Roesel 's new paper on Cu2+ - ion -water - membrane (second harmonic) imaging in The Journal of Physical Chemistry: doi.org/10.1063/5.0063… [Congrats 2!!]. Cake was super jummy.

Martin Hof from Czech Academy of Sciences visited EPFL yesterday – great science and discussions. All thanks to Peter Pohl and the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions ITN PROTON network

Coincidences don’t exist: Maksim, last of the FBI agents (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions) graduated yesterday with a very nice public defense.

First IBI director team co-author adventure is out! – a teamwork with Matteo Dal Peraro (Matteo Dal Peraro), Chan Cao (Chan Cao), Peter Maček group (Peter Maček), Benoit Zuber group (Benoit Zuber), driven by Tereza Schonfeldova & Halil Okur @Halil_I_Okur: pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ac…

Meeting great minds at the GRC on water: So many things we are only beginning to understand: free electrons in water (Ruth Signorell), water in no-mans’ land and in proteins (Ulrich Lorenz) and charge transfer & confinement effects. Cool!
