Wwe present a simple, environmental-friendly, cost-efficient method for the synthesis of Ce carbonates and #cerianite with tailored structures and chemistries. We also found out why cerianite is associated with REE-carbonates and how it forms in nature. Image: cerianite crystals.

The study sheds light of the occurrence and behaviour of Ce carbonates and cerianite in natural deposits. The findings also have implications for biomedical research (cerianite is a promising material in biomedical research due to its antioxidant properties). Image: Ce-carbonates

Funding for this study comes from "Frontiers for the Future" program by @scienceirel and Geological Survey IE, and the Trinity College Dublin's Provost PhD Awards program. Also Geological Survey IE funded the purchase of a new FTIR instrument (in the picture) that has been used to analyse some of the samples.
