These small, inconspicuous animals have eight long legs and a much-reduced body. They are not related to terrestrial spiders but belong to a different group – the pycnogonids. When exploring follow the Seashore Code to keep you and wildlife safe. bit.ly/3qf2jpi

These birds are summer visitors, coming to Britain to breed before wintering in Africa. They arrive in April and gather in large numbers, often at coastal areas such as Kimmeridge Bay, before leaving in October. bit.ly/3qf2jpi

This group of green seaweeds takes many forms but the most commonly seen in Dorset are Codium fragile (a non-native) and Codium tomentosum (a native species). The frond regularly divides into 2 branches along its length and is dark green in colour. bit.ly/3qf2jpi

These crustaceans are common on rocky shores. When disturbed, they will use their tail to clap themselves backwards and escape. They are more closely related to hermit crabs than to true crabs or lobsters. bit.ly/3qf2jpi
