I mean, they do indeed stop rallies - but only in the sense that the entire rally has now been driven in. Not really sure how hitting a home run can be perceived as a “rally killer” in the traditional sense at all.

A pair of walks and you give up the game-tying home run with two outs in the inning… that’s a heartbreaking way to let it slip.

It’s easy to pile on because he’s been really bad but I don’t think leaving Morel there is the craziest move. Morel gives you the best chance of the three to catch one and put three on the board, Chandler gives you a better shot to put something in play and roll it v. DeLuca.

Yes. As bad as Morel has been, he absolutely has a better chance of hitting a home run than Chandler Simpson or Jonny DeLuca. Like, you can’t even argue that. Morel has more home runs in his ~200 PA this year than DeLuca and Chandler have in their ~700 career PA combined.

If “just put the ball in play” is the approach, he executed it perfectly, and the Yanks turned two. Anyone can roll over a GIDP. You would prefer the home run because you’re down multiple runs in the eighth inning and stringing together a bunch of base hits is really hard to do.

Morel and Kelly are the easy outs walking away from tonight. But it’s a bit more sad to talk about what a liability Caballero has been and the fact that at this point he’s both a necessity and a liability.
