When I play shows, if I try to force things, the result can be disappointing. I usually have a great night when I let the spirit of the moment take over, don't take myself too seriously, and have fun with it all.

As you are influenced by other artists you meet or admire from afar, be careful not to lose yourself. Find yourself in their music and learn from them, but continue to develop your own voice.

This week in 1980, we lost John Bonham. It is a testament to his talent that, 40 years after his death, he is still influencing and inspiring rock drummers around the world. Lord knows he has been a guiding light for me since I first picked up a pair of sticks.

Phil Collen, the guitarist of Def Leppard, came in to produce the 'Shock' record. We were excited about that. And we were going to really be a hands-off band. Let him make the record he wanted to make. The first thing he told me was, 'I want to be able to air drum the record.'

How people pleasing led to bad choices.

A guy that I've learned a lot from is RichRedmond. Rich is my drum hero! I love that guy! He's let me be part of his drummers camp that I would have gladly paid to be a part of. Also got to hang with the incredible Jim Riley. Those guys have upped my game!
