#OnThisDay in 1908, TR spoke at the unveiling of a monument to Captain John Underhill on Long Island. Underhill was a prominent figure in 1600s New England & New Netherland. The monument was erected by the Underhill Society of America, a genealogical society for his descendants.

Although Theodore Roosevelt was enamored with the Badlands as a place to visit, the people who lived here full time didn't always feel the same way.

It is pretty amazing that you can today still visit a store that was operated during Roosevelt's time in the Badlands!

Although some people - including Theodore Roosevelt himself - accuse him of playing at cowboy, he did do the real work during the brief time he spent in North Dakota.

Did you know that TR loved magic? He even got the opportunity to be hoodwinked by Houdini himself! Houdini performed a spirit writing act for TR when they were both sailing on the ocean liner Imperator in 1914. TR was "dumbfounded," as Houdini put it in 1926.
