There are no people who had not heard about Colossal’s team decoding ancient DNA from a 13,000-year-old tooth and a 72,000-year-old ear bone, piecing together the dire wolf genome. With CRISPR, they surgically edited 20 SNPs across 14 genes in gray wolf endothelial progenitor

Great talk by Todd White about The Thalion Initiative (US)! As Managing Director of The Thalion Initiative, he’s helping advance some of the most promising work in aging research by supporting organizations and initiatives with real impact.

I just spent 3 days with Agingdoc🩺Dr David BarzilaišŸ””MD PhD MS MBA DipABLM and others members of the The Alliance for Longevity Initiatives (A4LI) community trying to ensure that the impact of the Biology of Aging and it's impact on #MAHA is understood at the Congressional level. I was very encouraged by Dr. Mehmet Oz's understanding of our field and I believe,

To solve the big data issue in biology we need big experiments. Physics has CERN, ITER, etc Biology has to embrace mega projects to gather data for tackling its biggest questions. Better to have 1 experiment with 1M samples than 10000 experiments with 100 samples. And

The Central Dogma of biology is this wonderfully comforting proclamation of the "rules" - until you realize it's not. Then you realize it's not really dogma at all, then your realize it's even misleading - time to maybe reconsider a better way of describing what we're

This is fantastic news for Longevity biotech! Montana is a state to watch - it will shine more and more in the future and gain relevance for aging biology and longevity medicine.

ā€žBiology is messy.ā€œ While it is somewhat true, it’s also heavily overused by scientists as excuse to justify that research doesn’t reproduce, or why we haven’t cured diseases yet. But another truth and factor in this issue is that ā€žHumans are messy.ā€œ And this human messiness

Excited to speak at Germanys premier Longevity Event - lifesummit.berlin - about "Colossal undertakings in Lifespan Extension". Looking forward to see many colleagues and friends in the capital of Germany.

Shocking stats. We’ve come all this way in biotech and success rates in clinical trials haven’t budged since the ’60s. We’ve got to stop gambling and start building real certainty and predictability into biology

Freedom from incentive structures that prioritizes idea generation/narrative over execution would go a long way to restore innovation.

Joe Lonsdale Step 5: build a solid and strong pipeline on fundamental biology for pre-clinical moonshot research. Otherwise the clinical pipeline will eventually dry up. At The Thalion Initiative (US) we are doing this for aging biology.

Looking forward to the Life Summit in Berlin and spread some of the concepts and thinking behind The Thalion Initiative - an effort to rethink the fundamentals of aging biology. Being German myself I’m glad that this event brings the German and international longevity community

We’ve built structures that reward predictability and incremental improvements over risk (risk that might lead to real breakthroughs, new paradigms, or entirely new fields), and publishability over curiosity. These issues resonate with The Thalion Initiative (US) We believe many of biology’s

Lifestyle interventions, supplements and the current state of non-evidence based longevity medicine distract the Geroscience field from developing meaningful rejuvenation therapies by diverting resources to low impact science and competing for the minds of top scientist.

New preprint (from a stellar team) on how PARP1 variants regulate ovarian reserve and menopause timing by affecting early germ cell fate, with mechanistic insight and supported with human genetics data. Thread >> medrxiv.org/content/medrxi…

Great overview of the various branches of thoughts on aging. However, I always find the word ā€œtheoryā€ in this context too strong and misused as it signals more robust understanding than there actually is. Most of these thoughts are hypotheses, not theories.
