Excellent article. And among other things gets right that the cuckoo clock is not Swiss: "Nor did they invent the cuckoo clock, if it comes to that. Bavaria was responsible for that kitsch contraption." It was Franz Anton Ketterer who invented it - Ketterer kitsch at its best.
