Happy Texas State University Founders’ Day! On May 10, 1899, Governor Joseph Sayers approved a bill establishing Southwest Texas State Normal School. This new school for teachers was built atop Chautauqua Hill, on land provided by San Marcos! SMTX’s first high school was built beside it!🐾
