Emmanuel Acho an Igbo man born in America talking about he don’t have generational trauma when his parents survived a genocidal civil war in their home country really shows how lost and disconnected he really is to his blackness on both sides of the Atlantic.

What has always bothered me about the “racial reckoning“ discourse is that it *starts* in 2020 with George Floyd, and not Trayvon Martin or Michael Brown or Eric Garner or Philando Castile or Sandra Bland or Freddie Gray or Did Ferguson just not happen for ⚪️ ppl? Just baffling

White supremacy trains ALL people to see black folks as a threat. This is why BLACK churches, BLACK schools, BLACK teams, BLACK families, have to work overtime to reinforce our worthiness to each other. THAT is how black cops can murder black ppl & it’s still racially motivated.

Black life is not a spectacle. Black Death is not a spectacle. Thankful for the Black journalists who amplified a message that we do not have to subject ourselves to the brutal beating death of Tyre Nichols. We have never needed brutal imagery to know we’re telling the truth.

God. Part of the horror of the Tyre Nichols video - which I’m not sharing - is how what we hear officers say is the opposite of what we see. For ex - the demand to see his hands when they are holding his arms & kicking him. It appears they’re manufacturing a pretext for the stop.

Carolyn Bryant Donham, whose lie led to the murder of Emmett Till, has died. That she did this having never been prosecuted and incarcerated for her actions attests to the resilience of American white supremacy.

Carolyn Bryant Donham died in August, 1955. Every day since then she rejected the chance to bring herself partially back to life. Now her body has joined her name, reputation and character in eternal death. The spirit of venerated ancestors Emmett and Mamie Till live.
