Kleinood - something small, and precious.✨🐑✨ Located in the unique ‘appellation’ of the Upper Blaauwklippen valley, lies Kleinood | Tamboerskloof - home of Tamboerskloof wines & de Boerin olive oil. The farm consists of roughly 12 hectares - 10 under vine & 2 under olive trees.🌿 (1/9)

The farm was purchased in 2000 by Gerard and Libby de Villiers, after extensive soil and climate analysis - no surprises here, considering their respective backgrounds in engineering and architecture! (2/9)

They decided that Shiraz would be the varietal of choice, with Viognier & Mourvèdre being farmed mostly for blending purposes. Their formal (Tamboerskloof) range of wines consists of the following: Syrah Viognier Katharien Rosé (Syrah) John Spicer Syrah (3/9)

The John Spicer Syrah is absolutely outstanding, and is viewed as the “ultimate expression of our terroir”.⛰🍷 (4/9)

The owners and winemaker (Reynie Oosthuizen) firmly believe in the adage that “great wines are made in the vineyard” and that the process must be undertaken “softly, gently” to express the terroir. (5/9)

Kleinood is about so much more than just wine, as evidenced by their range of De Boerin products and the farm’s philosophies that seem to touch each aspect of production - but my-oh-my their wines are spectacular!🤩 (6/9)

The tasting room is charming, simple and intimate - subconsciously encouraging you to engage with their expression of terroir. While I absolutely adore their Syrah, the surprise package of the day was a smattering of the Meevaller Mourvèdre (2019) - oh so good!🍷(7/9)

There is so much more to say, and it’s clear that I love the philosophy that the farm embodies, but do yourself a favour: head over to the farm and have a tasting, or buy a bottle, decant it and enjoy with some friends. Either way, you’ll remember this post as heaven-sent!✨(8/9)

A wine to be reckoned with and a Syrah with some serious backbone. Plum, black wine gum and 5 years experience. Marius quoted Nietzsche (nogal ) “It’s so dark, it’s like looking into the abyss and the abyss looked back”. Amazing wine, a beautiful Syrah. Kleinood | Tamboerskloof

Kleinood | Tamboerskloof As the name says, Kleinood is a small wine farm with 10 hectares of vines & 2 of olive trees. The 10 hectares of vineyards have been divided into 23 blocks because of the difference in soil conditions and are farmed accordingly. #wine #winetasting #Stellenbosch

After a nice 7km run from Cowes to Gurnard, it’s time for a lovely chilled glass of Rose. The Kleinood | Tamboerskloof Syrah Rose is consistently one of my favourites from South Africa and at 13% Abv. this 2020 is just perfect. All delicate red cherry, strawberries and cream. 😍🍷🦞🍓🍒
