Now published Science Magazine: TIR signaling activates caspase-like immunity in bacteria We report a new immune molecule: N7-cADPR. Produced by phage-induced TIRs and activates a defensive bacterial caspase Congrats @FrancoisRousset & Ilya Osterman! science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Congrats our very own Systems_Immunology_WIS member PI Tanita Wein for the impressive new paper nature together with Sorek Lab- Shedding yet another piece of the (inflammasome-related) origins of immunology in bacteria!! Proud of you Tana and team! nature.com/articles/s4158…

Another cADPR isomer involved in bacterial immunity has been discovered. For me, N7 was the least expected position; I was sure it would be N3, but no... So, there are two more positions for cyclization that should be discovered: N3 and -NH2. More Thoeris systems are waiting! :)

Claire's paper now entitled "Multi-interface licensing of protein import into a phage nucleus" is now published here: nature.com/articles/s4158… Claire Kokontis used classic genetics to figure out how proteins are selected for import into a "phage nucleus" Some notable additions:

Happy to share our new preprint describing prophage encoded anti-phage defense system,TERi, that targets the terminase complex of invading phages to inhibit DNA packaging. The system also encode self immunity proteins that protect the prophage. biorxiv.org/content/biorxi…

Congrats our Systems_Immunology_WIS lab Yifat Merbl lab for a new masterpiece study nature highlighting the existence of multiple endogenous proteosome-cleaved peptides featuring an anti-microbial activity! A fantastic read and a fascinating finding, way to go guys! nature.com/articles/s4158…

.Tanita Wein (Weizmann Institute) et al published a paper on bacterial CARD domains in anti-phage defense, showing CARD domains are essential for protease-mediated activation of bacterial gasdermins that trigger cell death upon #phage infection buff.ly/mBfYQ6d
