This Day in T&F—October 30 Husband Christian Cantwell was the 2009 World Outdoor and 3-time World Indoor Champion (2004, 2008, 2010) in the SP. Son Jackson is the #1 prep in the U.S. with a SP best of 74-9 ¾ (22.80/12lb). He is also a highly recruited football player. 2/2

Dr.Greg Bell, the 1956 Olympic champion in the Long Jump, passed away on Jan.25, At 94, he had been the oldest living Olympic gold medalist in T&F.

Such is this new era of “Super Shoes”, that Ethan Strand's 3:48.32 mile has now bumped Eamonn Coghlan off the All-Time Top-10 indoor list. Coghlan’s 3:49.78 was a World Record at the time, and 7 of the 10 runners now ahead of him all achieved their times since 2022!

Owen Powell (Mercer Island,WA) just ran 3:56.66 in the mile at Boston University to break the U.S. High School Record of 3:57.66 that was set by Hobbs Kessler in 2021

This Day In T&F—March 14 1981--Nebraska sophomore Merlene Ottey set a Collegiate Record in the 60-meters (7.24) and Collegiate and World Indoor Records in the 300-meters (35.91-semi, 35.83-final) at the AIAW (pre-NCAA) Championships in Pocatello, Idaho. 1/2

The ageless wonder went on to compete in 7 Olympics, six for her native Jamaica, and one for her adopted country of Slovenia (she was 44 at the time). She won 9 Olympic medals (3-silver, 6-bronze) and 14 medals at the World Outdoor Championships (3-gold, 4-silver, 7-bronze). 2/2

This Day In T&F—March 14 1993--Mozambique’s Maria Mutola (1:57.55) won the first of her amazing seven World Indoor titles in the Women’s 800-Meters, and American Dan O’Brien set a World Record of 6476 in the Heptathlon at the World Indoor Championships in Toronto.

There will be a Celebration of Life in honor of Peter Walsh, the legendary co-owner of Coogan's, at NY's Armory on Saturday at 2pm. The Armory is located at 216 Fort Washington Avenue, between 168th-169th Streets, in Washington Heights.

This Day in T&F—May 17 2019—Kenny Bednarek (Indian Hills C.C.), won the 200m at the Junior College Championships in 19.82 after running a very wind-aided (+6.1) 19.49 in his heat the day before. “Kung Fu” Kenny has since won silver medals in the 200 at the 2021 and 2024 Olympics
