We are very proud of this collaboration with Satlink - showcasing what can be done through the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (#AMDI) when clean-ups, data collection, tracking to the source and source reduction plans all come together with the right partners.

#Chemicallightsticks are used for a variety of purposes, including in the commercial fishing industry to attract target fish. Volunteers from Coolum & North Shore Coast Care have picked up hundreds of these while monitoring turtle nesting beaches on the Sunshine Coast.

150m+ of thick mooring rope was found snagged up on the reef. It was untangled and secured on a mooring with two #ProjectReCon buoys attached as we waited for the Cyclone to pass. Now the winds have settled, it was recovered and removed from the Great Barrier Reef! Satlink

Back in 2007, Wally stumbled upon plastic resin pellets for the first time. This started our mission to influence the plastics industry to stop losing feedstock during their operations, and eventually the implementation of Operation Clean Sweep in 2015. #Decade2ForTangaroaBlue

#RUBBERCRUMBFAIL - Hinchinbrook Shire, Ingham - Rotary Park Both rubber crumb loss from the park surface & plastic strips are coming out of reinforced concrete. In the tropics, mould growth needs high pressure hosing. So there is no surprise this type of pollution occurs.

Another piece of ghost gear is tagged with a #ProjectReCon buoy! Our partners at Ports North spotted this ghost gear drifting in Boyd Bay, Weipa. A GPS buoy was attached and this 2m long, 1m wide, and 6m deep ghost gear is now under our watchful eye until it can be removed.

🏖️🌀50% of plastic debris found on NSW beaches spent only 8 days at sea and traveled just 20km. Using 10+ years of Tangaroa Blue #CitizenScience data, UNSWOceanography & UNSW Centre for Sustainable Development Reform backtracked marine debris to identify likely sources and route of travel. 👀 unsw.edu.au/news/2025/03/u…
