The government giving a one-off, 20% cut to HECS debts is all well and good, but it’s short-termism at best; a pre-election cash splash at worst … Why aren’t they doing anything about $50,000 arts degrees? afr.com/work-and-caree…

Vice-chancellors who used the proposed caps as a smokescreen to threaten jobs must now abandon their terrible plans and apologise to the staff whose livelihoods were used as a political football.

The perverse corporate priorities of an unaccountable and obscenely remunerated senior executive class is eroding our great public unis and driving uni staff job cuts. A public inquiry is urgently needed. ⁦NTEU⁩ theguardian.com/australia-news…

Not only do VC's earn an extraordinary amount, ours has his fancy accommodation supplied (as well as a personal driver). Please disabuse me of this notion if it's incorrect Macquarie University ? What are these legacy 80s perks? And why aren't they being challenged?

Note that this group is representing Catholic Schools. Who benefit from funding. And fees. It's disingenuous to suggest our school funding is in any way equitable, and that public schools aren't suffering from limited capacity and resourcing. Jason Clare MP Prue Car MP NSW Dept of Education

Saw in The Age today that private schools are asking for more government funding. In my area, Aquinas College in Ringwood has pristine new basketball courts, while Ringwood High, a public school, is left with rundown facilities. The inequality is striking.

But he was interrupting? How is that ok? Question time was coming. Politics aside, if it was a free for all, Blinken wouldn’t have got one word out.

This really is an extraordinary visualization of the outrageous increase in university executive remuneration since the 1980s. Utterly indefensible

Bills tabled! Jacqui Lambie and I are pushing to end the obscene salaries paid to university vice-chancellors and fat cat bureaucrats. We’ll drag them into parliament to interrogate them on why they think they should retain their million dollar salaries. #FatCats #auspol

Now is the time for our Palestinian activists to step up and speak out against this rife antisemitism in Australia. Regardless of the issues at play, or anyone's fight for justice, hate speech isn't ok, ever. Randa Abdel-Fattah #Gaza abc.net.au/news/2025-02-1… via ABC Australia
