As it's Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS) week, the Douglas Catchment partnership have helped us to remove floating pennywort from the #RuffordBranch of the #LeedsLiverpoolCanal. We have arranged repeat visits over the growing season as this plant is very difficult to eradicate 👏👏

Mike and Tammy were at the Damselfly Wetland, this morning conducting water quality tests and collecting invertebrate samples. The data they collect goes to help see if the wetland is doing what it's supposed to, which is to enhance the water quality in the nearby River Tawd.

A quick litter-pick after work. 3 bags collected from Tawd Valley Park and surrounding areas. Two shopping trolleys pulled out the River Tawd also. Trying to keep it out of our waterways.

Team Tawd and Ranger Ben had a busy morning balsam bashing near Yewdale’s big pipe. They also cleared debris from the river but this time couldn’t get out 10 half buried trollies, a job for another day.

IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN - This morning, our river monitors donned their wellies, got into the water and surveyed the freshwater invertebrates at six sites along the River Tawd. This time they also took recordings of the rivers temperature, conductivity, PPM and pH.

Today, despite the pouring rain, a dedicated group of volunteers, along with Ranger Chris, ventured out into the valley to tackle the invasive Himalayan balsam - a plant that threatens our local biodiversity. Thank you to everyone who braved the weather today.

Today, despite the overnight rain, our annual teddy bears picnic went ahead. So many bears, children and adults came to have an adventure searching for the otter, the kingfisher and to find out all about the local mythical creature, known as the boggart.

Today, we were all the way in Keighley, North Yorkshire for day one of the Wild Trout Trust's River Urban Conclave event. The jam packed day involved riverfly and diatom sampling, electrofishing, flood alleviation scheme planning and a weir walk and talk.

Many thanks to Team Tawd and Ranger Ben for their hard work this morning replacing a damaged bollard and cleaning graffiti off one of the recently installed benches. Their efforts in tackling these tasks so effectively makes a real difference.

What an absolutely fantastic turnout for the collaboration balsam pulling volunteer day down in Tawd Valley Park. The small army which included Ribble Rivers Trust, WLBC Rangers, United Utilities River Rangers, FoTV volunteers worked hard to clear large patches of balsam today. TY.

Huge well done to all the volunteers, experts & partners (including Groundwork in Cheshire, Lancashire & Merseyside colleagues) who made the Friends of Tawd Valley Bioblitz a huge success at the weekend. 300 different species were identified. Your commitment to conservation is truly remarkable! (pics c/o Friends of Tawd Valley)

We could definitely feel the autumn chill in the air at the Damselfly Wetland this morning, as we were conducting our monthly pond dipping surveys and water quality monitoring. We had some fantastic results. All our data we collect is sent to the Ribble Rivers Trust for analysis.

Today is World Rivers Day! And what better way to celebrate it than to conduct our last riverfly monitoring surveys of the season down on the River Tawd. We had some fantastic finds this morning, but the stars of the show had to be the two stone loach.
