I always feel like a terrible trainee when I leave on time or don’t join the extra committees or don’t hang out every time people are getting together. Especially because I used to be the overly involved person who went above and beyond and that was my happy place.

How tired am I? Today I washed a Huggies diaper in the laundry. What I learned? Huggies indeed are superior. It held a LOT of water. It didn’t disintegrate or fall apart. I also thank God it wasn’t a dirty diaper. 😭😂

I am at a loss for words. How many more residents, physicians, humans need to take their own lives before people start to listen? Dr. Nakita Mortimer, you deserved more.

So at night, it’s usually just me and the boys which gets rough because I’m pumping every 2-3 hours. Tonight Dad is off work and is on daddy duty. (Usually turns into mommy duty but not tonight!!!) I’m hiding in my oldest son’s tent in the basement listening to the chaos. 😭😂

I was at the beach. It was bedtime, and I was tucking my two kids in bed. As I read The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe to them, that’s when we heard sirens go by the beach house A few minutes later, we heard the helicopter landing in the field behind our house. Strange. 1/

Recently, I was giving a presentation at Mayo Clinic but I also was “on-call” for my most rewarding role in life - father. I had a really special moment where my boys were able to come. Youngest fell down & needed some love. It led to this really special moment for us - TY 🙏🏾

Yesterday, I graduated from my residency in Emergency Medicine at UAB. This is what I prayed for. In the words of a close friend of mine, “I’m real live living my DREAM!” With that being said, I’m good. My family is good. But most importantly, my God is good!

What is being a parent like? Paying more for Croc jibbitz than the actual crocs because my 2 year old said so. 🥴 He also thinks the “J” is a 2 so his reasoning isn’t the most sound but I still listen. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I have worked as a receptionist, babysitter, busboy, waiter, pest control tech, OR tech, ER tech, EMT, and paramedic. All have taught me important lessons I will use today on my first shift as an ER doc.
