Another Day, Another Setback for Teesside Airport Easyjet announces it will set up a base at Newcastle Airport. How did the management at Teesside let that opportunity slip past them?

TVCA Cabinet: Standing on the Deck of the Titanic While the mayor proposes inadequate measures to address criticism of the Authority by external auditors, cabinet members fail to challenge them. Are we waiting in vain for them to assert themselves? teesvalleymonitor.com/tvca-in-crisis…

The land parcel on which the airport sits is so large they could build houses and still keep the airport running. We think they simply don't employ the staff that would seize this kind of opportunity. This would have been less likely had they been able to retain Stobart's

Crisis at Teesside Bioethanol Plant Recent US-UK trade deal allows US bioethanol manufacturers greater access to UK market, causing a crisis for UK producers, one of which is Ensus at Wilton. Knock-on effect on Teesside is considerable. Our report: teesvalleymonitor.com/us-uk-trade-de…

The crisis in bioethanol obviously is not to do with mismanagement at local level, but reveals just how weak the UK's bargaining position is in trade negotiations with the US. What's to stop the president coming back in a few weeks' time and demanding more concessions?

Closure of Ensus Bioethanol Plant has implications for public health. A statement on the prospect of plant closure and a report by the Royal College of Physicians on improving UK air quality in the UK. Our report highlights the connection between the two. teesvalleymonitor.com/public-health-…

The Ensus press release included a quote from him and the Journal reported that he had written to the prime minister. Nothing on TVCA news feed. 'It's abit awkward for him, given that he's invited Trump to visit Teesside.

Tees Valley mayor holds first Question Time at Yarm School Involving some unkind remarks about Private Eye, some reticence about the latest deal that will enrich property developers, and some dubious assertions about NE Security and the Freeport. teesvalleymonitor.com/houchen-sees-r…

He likes to project the image that he is still in control, but the sudden departure of the director of finance and the monitoring officer suggest that, behind the curtain, his activity is being challenged. The BVN may seem unglamorous, but it looks as if it's having an effect.

Funny, we've made the comparison between him and T. Dan Smith in the past, but actually he and Poulson had more in common with shoplifters at Home Bargains than they do with Houchen and the developers (and the other hangers on that make a profit out of TVCA contracts).

Our opinion is that many MPs get on with the job of serving their constituents without a fuss and without seeking publicity. Some, however, were too quick to start yelling about bringing in the NAO to the TVCA, when, in reality, it wasn't an option.

The long-term high-paying jobs thing was always exaggerated. As for levelling up, in our opinion what was needed was a strategy to create a more mixed local economy. Houchen certainly never bought into that. And data centres while they are needed are not large scale employers.
