We are delighted to collaborate with a group of people with visual impairment to produce a new Museum in a Box. We've been using audio describing and touch interpretation to enable them to experience Collection objects and soon they will choose their favourite ones! #huntmuseum

TENTATIVE AGREEMENTS REACHED FOR POSTDOCS & ACADEMIC RESEARCHERS AT UC! Last night, the UAW 5810 bargaining teams reached tentative agreements on new contracts. They will be put to a membership vote. Details to come. We are still on strike until a contract is ratified.

I can't even with the people whose response to UC postdocs earning a living wage is to complain that they can't afford them anymore. That our field is dependent on exploitative labor practices is not their problem.

When UC Labor Relations Director told KQED that the cost of housing is outside UC's control, she was either mistaken or being deliberately misleading. As the state's largest landlord, UC can do better. Read this analysis from a UC Berkeley economist. sfexaminer.com/our_sections/f…

Very happy to have these beautiful faery babies out in the world! These are some of the best, most cutest, lizards you'll ever know! 💜

Fascinating piece. Imagine if the "observer" in science was more often diverse... and, for example, if we would not bar people with blindness from research... What wonders and knowledge could we uncover. bigthink.com/13-8/quantum-u…

From the 2021 National Center for Science & Engineering Stats Survey of Doctorate Recipients: U.S. residing PhDs with one or more disabilities by field. As a bioengineer by training, I am unsurprised to see engineering lagging behind. But compared to the U.S. population, this overall isn't great! #DisabledInSTEM

Check out my new perspective piece in PLOS Biology where I share my vision for the future of natural history collections, one where we don't need to sacrifice animal lives to conduct collections-based research, which I term "compassionate collection" journals.plos.org/plosbiology/ar…
