Canadians’ digital safety calls for strong whistleblower and security researcher protection! When crafting digital policies, the protection of whistleblowers and public interest researchers has been a major blindspot. My latest in The Hill Times: hilltimes.com/story/2023/07/…

I wrote a short post about the experience here: ipc.on.ca/bookending-my-… @uOttawaTechLaw Vance Lockton Christopher Parsons

Canada’s draft AI legislation provides little detail about what technologies it will govern, or how. "What types of AI will be excluded from the definition? ... Nobody has said yet." writes @teresascassa. Read more: cigionline.org/articles/canad…

On Wednesday, August 30 from 3-5pm ET, I'm teaming up with Adam Kardash and Sam Ip for a workshop on the federal governments proposed 'code of practice' for #generativeAI . It's free and open - join us: accessprivacy.com/events/2023/is… @uOttawaTechLaw

So this - a report about trends, risks, legislation, etc., re: algorithms generally and AI specifically - is actually a really interesting idea. Kinda want to 'borrow' it for Canada.

Thread 🧵- literally 10 people in Canada will probably care about this but I am one of them. Finally (FINALLY!) We get to see a full unredacted GBA+ analysis and detailed peer review for an AIA. It's for the IEC Work Permit Eligiblity Model. Was recently updated on 14 February

Oh Air Canada ! Left home yesterday morning for a two hour flight to Halifax. Today I’m sitting in Toronto (further away) still trying to get there. It would have been faster to drive. With an overnight stop. And cheaper.
