This morning, Viky Culshaw presented to us the inner workings of her multitrophic home-range models. Once validated, these models will provide very useful insights, for instance into studying the effects of disturbances in the landscape for animal populations.

Today, PhD candidate Marlene gave us an insight into her PhD project on the effects of Douglas fir admixture on aboveground biodiversity in her public Thesis Advisory Committee meeting. Impressive design, results and progress so far. Great work, Marlene!

Terrestrial Ecology @chemodiversity I really recommend working in our Research Unit as PhD. Great opportunity working on an exciting research topic in cooperation with other PhDs from leading groups in plant chemical ecology.

Today, Antonia finished her MSc thesis in our Tansy chemodiversity team. She spent all summer counting aphids and predators on different plant chemotypes, and found little effect on predator communities, but interesting effects on feeding rates. Congrats Antonia!

This morning, Sophia defended her BSc thesis work, in which she used acoustic bird recordings in Munich to investigate relationships between city greenness and bird diversity over the summer season. Very nice work, supervised by @AJFairbairn and @sebastiantmeyer.

Today, Felix presented the results of his BSc thesis investigation, in which he assessed the effects of different aspects of admixture of the non-native Douglas Fir into German beech forests on beetles, revealing interesting effects on morphospecies richness. Rafael Achury

The #NatureRestorationLaw isn't a threat to Europe’s food security. Rather it's a safety measure to secure food & ecosystems to support our future. If you're in doubt, ask scientists. To read more about the scientific case for a strong NRL see here: conbio.org/policy/europe-…

Today Zoé presented to us the results of her MSc thesis research, in which she investigated insect communities in relation to green roof characteristics in Ingolstadt. She finds that abiotic characteristics, but not management, have a strong effect on insect taxa.

NEW: Oriana Sanchez-Mahecha just published a PhD chapter in which she tested consistency of microbe-induced resistance to aphids in barley, under different climatic scenarios. Effects were stable - which is needed for application. Functional Ecology OA paper: besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/13…
