Ever seen anyone fishing down a bore before? Here I am fishing for stygofauna. Stygofauna are essential in maintaining the distribution of microbes and nutrients in aquifers. My research aims to determine how stygofauna respond to groundwater drawdown. @MQBiology #MQHDRcontest

The Fair Work Commission has ordered a 2.5% increase in the minimum wage, lifting it to $20.33 an hour. *Whispers* The PhD stipend is $13.75 per hour (for a 40-hour week).

Listen, I’m all for space exploration and it must have been an amazing view. But maybe – and I’m just spitballing here – if Amazon and other companies paid their fair share in taxes, we could lift all kids — if not into space — at least out of poverty. Sincerely, Earthlings

When grad students are paid such an appallingly low stipend, they are told by #academia that their time and (skilled) expertise are not valuable, and face financial strain that greatly challenges their well being. PAY 👏 GRAD 👏 STUDENTS 👏 A 👏 LIVING 👏 WAGE #AcademicTwitter

A fine of only $1500 for groundwater extraction above quota by up to 3000ML! Who set this piss weak fine? This should be a criminal offence not a slap on the wrist for big companies. One-tenth of groundwater users in breach of licences, investigation finds smh.com.au/environment/su…

Did you know there’s still #Afghan #refugees in detention in Australia today? People who have been detained for 8 years from what is now probably the most unsafe place on earth. With a strike of the pen Alex Hawke MP could show some great compassion and leadership and release them

I love Australia. And that’s why I loudly criticise things that jeopardise and damage her landscapes, people and both their futures. This beautiful country deserves to be protected and care for, and we Australians should have a future we can look forward to. #ClimateActionNow
