A lot of the YouTuber/filmmaker discourse comes from jealousy - so many of us made little videos when we were younger, but they never went further; seeing two guys go from dumb vids to well received features makes people feel like they could have done that too, but never did…

What are your top 5 film scores of the decade so far?

Loving these 60s and 70s Yakuza flicks set in Okinawa - the scores are so much more front and center compared to other Yakuza films, often with a heavy dose of jazz Here's the main titles from Kinji Fukasaku's Sympathy for the Underdog, score by Takeo Yamashita (Lupin III)

Cool to see this come out, Haab’s score to the first was very solid but totally overlooked

I like that this is meant to frame Ludwig as some sort of artsy, highbrow composer when you could say “the score is by the guy that did Creed, Venom, and Black Panther, and worked with Childish Gambino” and “masculine American men” would all go “Hell yeah”

Funny seeing a clip from the show out in the wild! Cruise had some hands on moments with the score in The Final Reckoning as well as Rogue Nation, would love to know when else he’s done this

Among the many issues with guy’s statement is that it’s easier to make music/learn an instrument now than at any other point in history But of course, pressing a button to generate something for you also isn’t similar to that anyway, might as well just open up Spotify & hit play

Seems like every time a big movie with a Hans Zimmer score is coming out (e.g. F1) people come out of the woodwork to air their complaints about HZ. I guarantee that any issues you may have with him are also being done (more severely) by some other big name composers...
